Why Does Bullion Cost More Than Spot?
Understand gold and silver premiums, compare price per fine ounce, and distinguish a spot reference from a finished bullion product’s retail price.
Spot is a metal-market reference, not the delivered price of a finished coin or bar. Retail bullion includes a product premium. Compare the premium per fine ounce and the final order total at the quantity you intend to buy.
What is a bullion premium?
A premium is the difference between a product’s retail price and the spot value of its fine metal. Product format, fabrication, distribution, and market demand can affect that difference. Physical products should not be assumed to be available at spot.
How do I calculate a premium?
Multiply spot per troy ounce by the item’s fine troy ounces, then subtract that metal value from the item price. For example only: at an assumed spot of $30, a 10 fine-ounce silver bar priced at $350 has $300 of reference metal value and a $50 premium, or $5 per fine ounce. These figures are not current market prices.
How do quantity discounts affect the comparison?
Use the price tier for your actual quantity. A displayed starting price may belong to a larger purchase tier. Compare the item price, fine weight, and any shipping charges or applicable taxes before deciding which order has the lowest total cost.
Will I get the premium back when I sell?
Not necessarily. A resale offer depends on the product, buyer, condition, market, and transaction costs at that time. The price you can sell for may be below the price you paid. Spot moving higher does not automatically mean your purchase is profitable.
How does Sovarum Bullion set prices?
When online ordering is active, our price combines a live spot reference multiplied by fine troy ounces with a product premium for the selected quantity tier. Review checkout’s final total and time-limited lock. Placing an order creates a binding purchase; ordering is paused when live pricing is unavailable.
